2023 Tata Nexon EV. Whats Exciting about it !

Tata Nexon EV

Tata Nexon EV Review

Measuring less than four meters in length, the Tata Nexon EV is a sub-compact SUV. It is one of the best selling vehicles in India and one of Tata’s most well known model. Other options available at a price comparable to the Tata Nexon are the Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, and Mahindra XUV300.

One of Tata Motors’ greatest successes to date is the Tata Nexon EV. Introduced in 2020, this car was the first mass-market electric vehicle and helped propelled the domestic automaker into the future. In comparison to its internal combustion engine (ICE) equivalent, the Nexon EV provided a reasonable price premium, good refinement, low operating costs, and a respectable range.

Because of its lasting influence, the Nexon continued to be one of the best-selling sub-4 million SUVs even though it was getting on in age at the age of six.

Along with its ICE counterpart, Tata Motors has now unveiled an update for the Nexon EV. Even though it’s only a facelift, the changes are so significant that it feels anything…

Tata Nexon EV Exterior

Inspired by the Curvv SUV concept, the revised Tata Nexon EV has a more angular look. It has split LED headlights, a closed grille, sporty air curtains on the lower half of the bumper, and elegant daytime running lights that stretch along the hood and also double to show the amount of charge remaining. With these changes, it appears to be much more of a generational update than a straightforward cosmetic makeover.

The back appearance has also undergone significant revisions, with a connected lighting arrangement akin to the front that includes a streamlined LED X-shaped pattern. To preserve a tidy back appearance, Tata has skillfully incorporated the rear wiper into the roof spoiler and modified the rear bumper.

The main difference is the revised 16-inch alloys, which increase aerodynamic efficiency over the previous model, while the side profile stays the same. The 2023 Tata Nexon EV appears more functional and contemporary overall than the previous model.

Tata Nexon EV Interiors

Upon entering the 2023 Tata Nexon EV facelift, one finds an interior that differs from earlier versions. With a comparatively flat dashboard, the layout is still simple, but it now has a ton of screens, touch-sensitive panels, and displays.

The upholstery varies based on the variant package that is chosen, and the steering wheel features a new two-spoke design with a distinctive illuminated Tata logo.

In addition to being the biggest in its price range, the 12.3-inch infotainment system performs exceptionally well in terms of screen quality, graphics, and usability. It has a clear screen and generally works well with touch sensitivity. We had very few system errors, albeit there were sometimes reaction delays, in contrast to the internal combustion version.

In addition to physical knobs for adjusting the temperature and fan speed, the HVAC controls have been updated with touch-sensitive controls.

Notably, Tata Motors’ choice to give the Nexon seats more substantial cushioning has resulted in a notable improvement in seating comfort. Not only these seats comfortable, but they also provide superior back and thigh support. The cushions are perfect for long trips and city drives because they have the perfect amount of firmness and softness.

The thicker seats do, however, have a little less knee room. Even though two 6-footers could still fit one behind the other, it might feel a little cramped in comparison to segment norms.

Due to the larger battery pack, the Long Range EV version experiences a similar problem as the older model, which raises the floor a little and reduces underthigh support, particularly in the rear seat. The medium-range EV and internal combustion engine versions perform better in terms of rear seat comfort.

Practically speaking, the boot space is unchanged from the previous model and provides sufficient space for weekend luggage. The practicality of the cabin hasn’t increased much, though. Front cup holders are absent from models with wireless phone chargers, and front storage spaces like door pockets are still rather tiny.

Tata Nexon EV Features

Tata Motors has raised the bar for the tech package with the 2023 Tata Nexon EV. It has the best 12.3-inch touchscreen in its class, and when charging, it can download games or stream media in arcade mode. A top-notch 360-degree camera, ventilated front seats, a wireless phone charger, a 9-speaker JBL sound system with a subwoofer, a sunroof, and connected car technology are also included.

The 10.25-inch fully digital driver’s display is also a new feature. It is notable for having the ability to charge other electric vehicles both vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) and vehicle-to-load (V2L), effectively converting it into a portable power bank.

Six airbags are now standard, and additional safety features include electronic stability control, blind spot monitoring, blind spot monitoring with ABS and EBD, and a tire pressure monitoring system.

Tata Nexon EV Powertrain

Tata has made notable advancements in this field, primarily through the use of a 20 kg lighter Gen-2 permanent magnet synchronous AC motor and minor aerodynamic design changes. The long-range model has a 40.5kWh battery and a 143PS motor, while the medium-range model has a 30kWh battery and a 129PS motor.

According to ARAI, these modifications have led to a minor increase in range: 325 km for the medium range and 465 km for the long range.

We were quite pleased with the long-range version of it. The new motor has a much quieter operation, but its power delivery system has undergone the biggest modification. The updated Nexon EV LR motor accelerates with remarkable smoothness and linearity, in contrast to the previous model, which felt exuberant but a tad too eager.

Particularly in the ECO and City drive modes, there are very few jerks. It keeps its eagerness without feeling jarring, even in Sport mode.

Tata claims that it accelerates to 100 kmph faster than the previous car, taking 8.9 seconds instead of 9.4 seconds. It’s interesting to note that, from the driver’s seat, the smoother power delivery and quieter cabin make it feel slower than the outgoing model.

It’s a great option for city commuting and more enjoyable to drive at lower speeds thanks to the improved power delivery.

Performance is more than adequate on the highway, and the upgraded motor offers a higher top speed of 150 kmph. You can overtake at a high speed even in City mode, and in tight spots, you can access the additional performance of Sport mode. The car has three different regen modes, but like the last model, we wish they were more precisely calibrated.

Sadly, the Nexon EV lacks a single-pedal mode, which would have made city driving even more enjoyable. It was too short a test drive to properly evaluate practical range enhancements.

Tata Nexon EV Ride and Handling

The 2023 Nexon EV performs admirably in this regard, just like all Tata vehicles do. The Nexon EV feels almost the same as the ICE (internal combustion engine) model, even with its increased weight. Its excellent body control and handling give off confidence. It’s not too sporty, but it gives off a sense of safety and predictability.

Further more, the ride quality is excellent, with plenty of suspension travel allowing it to easily handle even big potholes. The quiet operations of the suspension adds to the overall relaxing driving experience.
